It's not easy being green!

Am I the only one out there that feels this way? I want to help the environment, but in the busyness of being a mom, cooking, cleaning, and running a business, I feel like I am falling short in this area. I would love to recycle and use cloth diapers and make my own baby food and many other environmentally friendly things, but how do I balance it all? Anyone have any tips for some busy moms about being a green mommy and finding the time for everything else as well? Leave your sage advice as a comment to this post so we can all learn!

It is a tough thing to do but it can be done. We recycle wherever possible and re-purpose old items and materials. We donate items and share hand-me-downs. We conserve our use of water and electricity. We talk a lot to our kids about the environment and how they can create positive change. Get out there and help clean up garbage at a local park the next time you are there or have your kids help put bricks in your toilet tanks to conserve water. There are lots of simple easy things to do without feeling overwhelmed. Just do your best.

I don't do cloth diapers or make my own baby food (though, we're out of the baby food stage), but I try to be green. Turning the lights off when we're not in that room. Make sure electronics are off when we're not using them. Don't let the water run when brushing teeth, doing dishes, etc. Make sure you have a full load of laundry rather that wasting energy on a bunch of small loads. Recycle everything you can. I have a bin for cardboard, one for tin/plastic/glass and one for newspapers and paper. A lot of people throw their junk mail away, but it's paper and can be recycled. My, I'm writing a novel. :oP Every little bit helps. Even if you only do one thing, it's still something.

We do the recycling, buying locally stuff. But our biggest thing is vermicomposting (composting with worms). My boys LOVE IT! Not only is it good for the environment, but it's a science experiment in our home. Stop on over to my blog if you want more info, I'd be happy to point you in the right direction as my husband has started a business doing it!

I do a lot of little things; recycle all plastic, paper, tin, glass, ect..., we never turn the lights on during the day, I unplug most appliances when not it use, I never buy paper plates, we use wash cloths instead of paper towels, conserve water, ect... One small thing I discovered is my bounce dryer sheets pick up dust really easily. I use the used ones for all my dusting. They work great for the bathroom floor; all the hair & dust just clings to them!
